2008 Four A's Stagecoach Cabernet Sauvignon
The Four A's 2008 Stagecoach Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Napa Cabernet Sauvignon from the Stagecoach Vineyard in Napa. The grapes were harvested on October 1st, 2008 and had a fairly extensive hang time. 2008 was a great year and we wanted the grapes to ripen and get the full Atlas Peak flavor. The grapes were 100% destemmed with a 75% whole berry mix and because of the initial flavor, only cold soaked for one day before fermentation began. The wine was on the skins for 22 days prior to pressing into a new French oak with a medium toasted head. The wine spent approximately eight months in barrel and was then racked to an aged French barrel for a further eight months of aging. The wine was then racked into a combination of new (half) and old (half) French oak for an additional 10 months and then blended, giving the wine a total of 26 months of maturation. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered on December 21st, 2010.
Our 2008 Four A's Cabernet is 100% single vineyard Cabernet from the Stagecoach Vineyard, an incredible 1200+ acre property situated high above the valley floor, nestled between Atlas Peak to the south and Pritchard Hill to the North... The site is planted to a wide range of varietals and rootstocks and features several distinct microclimates. The fruit for our 2008 is from a small block near the top with a slightly lower-yield than most of the vineyard. The flavor is dried herbs, mocha, and black currant. The wine pours a deep, dark purple with hints of a black inky color and shows its steep hillside upbringing with cacao, cassis, and red fruits. The initial bouquet is of cocoa, herbaceous spice, and a vanilla-leather showing through. On decanting, there is a deep dark fruit, coffee, and chocolate, typical of the Stagecoach vineyard. The initial palate is a elegant with a deep and rich dark chocolate supplemented by fine oak tannin. This is a structured, viscous, and plush Cabernet with a balanced finish suitable for immediate consumption but should age well for several years.
